If you love eye-shadow but find they crease and wear quickly, the colouring isn’t noticeable enough or powder falls onto the cheek area, eye-shadow crayons or sticks might be the answer.
I’ve been using eye-shadow crayons for a while, either on their own or as a base for powder shadow. They glide on easily and are a cream to powder formula, they can be buffed out using a brush or your fingers. Once applied they dry in about 30 seconds so not much play-time. You can achieve the same look with crayons as with the standard eye-shadow powders but without the worry of powder fall down; once they’re on, they don’t budge. With that in mind its wise to apply and buff one eye at a time. I’ve tested various crayons and have set out some of my favourites below.
Mii Eye-shadow Crayons (£17.00)
Winner of Best Beauty Bible Product 2017, I’ve been using & working with Mii Eye-shadow Crayons for years and they're a best seller in my business. These are great for everyday wear and really quick to apply. They also have serious durability and I always reach for them when I'm working with brides and anyone else who needs their makeup to last all day. There’s 8 shades ranging from a light champagne to a deep indigo colour, with a variety of matte & shimmers. with more colours planned. Mii are a professional only brand and so you'll need to order through your beautician or make-up artist, but don't let that deter you, they're worth the extra bit of effort!
Charlotte Tilbury, Colour Chameleon eyeshadow pencils (£19.00)
I love CT makeup, and the Colour Chameleon eye-shadow pencils are great. They're not as creamy as the Mii crayons so blending isn’t as easy, but once applied they don’t budge! So much so that I have to use eye makeup remover (for waterproof mascara) to get it off. Picking a colour couldn’t be simpler, as they specially recommend shades based on eye colour. These eight pencils and one limited edition colour have more glitter content than the Mii Crayons so look great for an evening makeup look. I have a slight issue with the lids as they don’t stay on well and the pencil can damage easily, so keep them away from your other products. You can pickup Charlotte Tilbury from Selfridges or direct online.
No 7, Stay Perfect Shade and Define, £8.00
This No.7 product is a great shadow stick. It’s soft, creamy and long wearing, applies with ease and blends really well. It’s clever pointed tip allows for different applications and has a built in sharpener so you can use this as a liner or shadow. There’s eight matte & shimmer shades, I have the colour cool mink which is a nice daytime shimmer, my only criticism is that this was the only wearable shade for me. I feel the colours are either bland or didn’t suite my colouring which is a shame as they have a great product formula and I would have bought more; I can wear most shades from Mii or Charlotte Tilbury so Please No.7, make more colours!
Obviously there are many more crayon brands available and it's always worth having a play to see what works for you. As an aside, none of the above brands test on animals, which is close to my heart as a pet owner. There are other brands that sell crayons/sticks but most are either, not animal cruelty free and/or sell products in China. Chinese regulations require that skincare and cosmetics products to be sold in China have to undergo animal testing before those products can be made available. The testing is compulsory and carried out in government labs. I’m saddened that this is still happening in 2018 when other countries have perfectly good and rigorous testing regulation which don't involve use on animals.
Thank you for reading.
